I'm not sure. It seems like there's a flood of used ones on the market since a lot are upgrading.

by the looks of the specs it might be a replacement plus the fact that Nikon included both the D700 and D300s in their discontinued camera section

admit it...I know you're interested

with the performances of their current release of 35mm f/1.8GDX and 50mm f/1.8G FX lenses... this would be pretty interesting :D

I don't find it interesting if it's f 1.8. If the build was similar to Canon's 17 TS-E, I would really be interested. ;)

Edit: is the D800 replacing the D700 or being released along side it?

The D700 has been discontinued in Japan already I believe because of some type of battery regulations. I suspect it will still get discontinued everywhere soon.

1.8 will keep the price down and so they'll be very popular.

Im going to check in to my local store sometime next week and ask whats the deal. As of now the D700 is still on Nikon Canada website. Im reluctant to get the body used.

I just put my 5D2 in the marketplace and put through my second preorder for the D800. I'm sure that means I'll end up buying a 5D3.

If I do grab some Nikon gear in the future it will go along side my current lineup. No way am I selling my stuff to completely switch over.

It gets expensive having multiple systems, with the extra lenses, cards, batteries, etc, and it's more hassle.

Actually i want the opposite, Id be very happy with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G! the AF and Bokeh on it are quite lovely...

It's a nice lens. I did all my prep photos at the last wedding with it, and some low light stuff. It's sharp enough wide open for me.

I dont think that Im "heavily" invested in Canon. I dont have any spare batteries for any of my cameras thus far, and as it is my 5D and 50D use different batteries chargers etc. The D800 uses CF so Im good in that respect. The only think that Im going to be adding alot of is lenses. I like lenses both from Nikon and Canon.

Almost ready to place my pre-order , having a hard time deciding between the D800 and D800E.
Leaning towards the filtered one as of right now.
