How much of a problem could the D800E have with patterns? Does it matter that much? Even if there were an issue, I've skimmed by a software that fixes this pattern issue anyway.

Check it out on the Nikon site, that's 14 bit uncompressed. You can go for 12 bit compressed which is around a third the size, from memory. I honestly don't know the answer to that atm since LR4 is supposed to have a moire removal tool.
