That'll be the April price. ;)

Someone else had a trade on there, D3s for D3x. If I had a D3x I would do it in a heart beat. A D800 would compliment that body well. Not to mention the D3s will hold it's value better.

yeah since it has better high ISO performance than the D3x...plus its newer :D

Here's something interesting, the video was posted on nikon rumors.
http://kelbytv.com …v/2012/02/06/episode-104/ (external link)

The episode was shot with the D4 and NOT the D800. Look at the moire issues the camera is experiencing in video.

BTW, the vid looks like crap. I will blame the producers or the hosting site. I did turn HD on.

Lol can't wait to see moire video on D800E w/o AA filter, but I guess people who ordered E version don't care about video as much.

 I care! ;)

All I want is an on/off switch for the AA filter. Is that too much to ask? :p

just buy 1 E version and one normal version... coz it would probably cost the same if they put an on-off switch for the AA filter

Can someone help me understand the D800 vs. D800E a little more, and the moiré patterning that is present in the D800 but not the D800E. I'm not a camera or photography expert, just an enthusiast, and I kind of get the basics, where the blur of the moiré patterning is present in the D800, and so thats why studio and landscape photographers would rather have the D800E, why would you want the moiré in the D800 at all, is it even noticeable to the non-trained eye? Etc...

I guess the D800E will give pixel level detail boost so why wouldn't we just want that to begin with?

its the other way around... the D800E doesn't have the Anti Aliasing filter and will exhibit more moire, will produce sharper images ideal for landscape photographers.

the D800 have an anti aliasing filter and less moire and is ideal for fashion/portrait photography :D

Ahhh, ha, ok. See sorry, I can't even read the articles and write ups and understand it. lol...
So the moiré patterning, if I understand it correctly, is a sort of warping of the edge of the photo?
Bending of the image sort of?

Thom Hogan has some interesting commentary about moiré in his article about the D800 (almost all of the way to the bottom )

And in summary...

If you are a portrait/fashion/studio/architectural/bird photographer, then get the Nikon D800 – you would be better off with an AA filter. If you are a landscape or a macro photographer, then you should get the Nikon D800E to get the maximum detail out of the high-quality 36.3 MP sensor.

That answers a lot for me there.

^- Thom's article is well thought out, I always enjoy reading his opinions actually... He seems very balanced and him and I agree many times on the types of lenses we like and don't like...

I agree on his opinion, We're hitting a point where DSLRs arent going to be getting monumentally better for a while now without some kind of HUGE move, like 3-layered sensor technology or something... Thats why the D7000 and D800 are as awesome as they are, They're made to basically sit in the market for a while....
