All these decisions are driving me insane. Ill list out my options I have thought out :/

1. 5D Mark II and add another 5D Mark II
2. 5D Mark II add 1Ds Mark III
3. 5D Mark II add 1Dx
4. Nikon D800 and D7000
5. Two D800s
6. D4

This is just my body decision :/ I think I may go to my local store and have a play with all the current bodies and see whats up and how I like the feel of them. Either way I want to have a back up body, you never know what will go wrong and I dont want to be stuck without a camera to use. Especially with a new system. Ill have to do the hard math on this one.

What do you mostly take photos of Tony, and are you a pro?

Im going to be setting up my own shop so to speak. Im not pro as of now. Im building up towards that point but I am going to start my own business. Im going to be taking photos mostly of cars; my main focus of business will be automotive photography. So everything from full car shots, to interior, details, rig-motion etc.

I have though of this setup, D4, 14-24, 24-70, 105 Micro. Would meet all my needs that I would need to shoot. Would I need a D4? Not entirely, but at this point Im playing around with what options would work and what wouldnt. Nothing is set in stone.

All I know is that I have these requirements:

Full-Frame Sensor Body + Back Up (does not HAVE to be FF but would be nice)
Wide Angle Lens (interior, rig shots)
Medium Tele Zoom (24-70 range is perfect)
Macro Lens (for close up details)

I would want to keep this all under $10K (CDN pricing btw). My D4 estimate came in just over at $12K. Thats what Im thinking now, a lot of things to consider when opening up a business.

For cars I think D800 would be better, if they're not moving. I think a wide lens could be handy, and standard. Lighting's the hard part. You probably know more than me anyway.

...plus D800 and D7000 both use the same battery - so D7000 would be a useful backup for a D800 if crop sensor is not an issue.

hehehe you don't need me to figure that out

I will bet my life you will do it at some point hahaha

I was actually thinking of getting the Fuji X-Pro1 with a 35 and the D800E with a 85 and call it a day. The only thing stopping me is the price of the X-Pro1, that's one expensive crop body.

Really looking at the numbers here. It will either be staying with my current setup and adding some lenses, or going for Nikon with only a D800 and 14-24, 24-70, 105 Micro. I dont want to blow wads of cash when I have other important things to consider such as storage and lighting systems.

Does the announcement of a 5D Mark III and/or 5D X keep any of you from switching?

I know this is just a rumor, but these rumor sites tend to have some good sources that eventually come to be real...I still think I want to switch to Nikon, but this announcement would keep me from rushing to a decision.

Yep. Just saying, IF it does get closer to a CR3, or is announced, wondering if it would change anyone who wants to switch?

Depends if 22mp is really the highest they have.
A LOT of people got the 5D2 since it was the highest MP in the market (some of my friends got theirs SOLELY because of that, even they just taking snapshots)

I am really interested in seeing what you decide. All I shoot is automotive photography too.

Assuming what's on paper translates into reality, and that includes a nicely working AF and a bump in high ISO noise handling and overall IQ, then there's absolutely no reason for me to switch.

The rumored specs are certainly good enough for me. 22MP, 6.9fps, 61pt AF. Still sounds like B.S. specs, but I guess we can only wait and see. It'll certainly be a different camera than the D800. Not better or worse. Just different. I prefer 22MP over 36MP for what I do.

Is there anything with your current lineup that is bothering you? If you are shooting static subjects, the 5D2 should be more than good enough no?

At this point, I would stay far, far away from the 1DsIII. Crazy pricing on those.
