Sony's lens lineup is even more limited though. Also, sounds like they will go with an evf in their next full frame. That is a bit scary because I don't think the tech is to the point to put it in a flagship camera.

I feel good going to nikon as they have very good lens coverage except. I can't find a good 400mm options like Canon's 400mm 5.6.

Might have to just get the 2x converter for the 70-200mm.

300mm f/4 + 1.4x TC = 420mm f/5.6. I understand this combo works very well. I'll work on the various options once I get my hands on a body.

Ya, Nikon took a beating with that D700 when Canon got the Mark II (because Canon knew the D700 > Mark I). Not to mention they beat themselves by giving the D700 the same sensor and AF as the D3 for half the cost.

Hence the difference in tech between the D4 and D800. I'm sure they learned their lesson.

Nikon has come back with a vengeance (with the help of Sony).

The D700 won so many customers for Nikon that wouldn't have gone D3, I call it a total win camera. I really have no desire to upgrade to the D800. Maybe the D900... maybe not.

Nikon using "old" technology produced the D3S, which I believe still sets the benchmark for low light performance.

5D & 7D (both gripped), 24-105L, 100-400L, 15-85, 50 f1.8, Tamron 28-75, Sigma 12-24, G10, EX-Z55 & U/W housing, A1+10 lenses, tripods, lighting gear, etc. etc.

Probably one of the biggest reasons that Nikon focused on the MP with the D800 is exactly because of this. How much better of low light performance do you really need when most people were perfectly happy with the D700 in the first place? They must've had to do something else, like improve MP, to continue grabbing a broader market since upping ISO won't do much as seen with the love of the D700. Makes sense to me. I expect better ISO handling for the next generation and a whole lot of other things in a total package as the technology will be cheap enough.

This was shot handheld while traveling by bus at about 65 plus miles xD My sons class went to Moaning Caverns , I chaperoned and brought my trusty Nikon D700, Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D, but I mostly used the excellent Nikkor 28mm f/2.8! more to come, but warning, they are just ok.

Your bus crossed a railway level crossing at 65mph?

I think you'd really benefit by posting some of these in the Critique Corner section of the forum and ask for some help with your technique. You have terrific equipment and I bet with some good advice you'd see a remarkable improvement in a short period of time.

No problem. Also turn "Image Editing OK" on in your user profile so others can help if one of your images can benefit from cropping, correcting white balance, etc.

Gojira, you really need to learn the basics of exposure and composition. The book "understanding exposure" would be good for you.

As I said before, this isn't a thread to share your images. The odd image is good, but your family snaps, holiday snaps, etc, not the right place. Please use the image sharing forums. This thread is for discussion and advice. If you persist in posting your snaps I'll just add you to my ignore list and the problem will disappear for me, but you'll also not receive any advice from me ever again as I just won't see your posts.

Hello, I apologize, I must have misunderstood the title (Re: Got a Nikon? Share your thoughts and photos here or ask a question! (II))!
I will do so as suggested, again, I apologize very much:oops:! As for the most part of these cruddy pix, I took all of these on a bus with speeds ranging from 065 or so, and I aimed my Nikon D700, and Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 MF lens either resting on the ledge, or actually out the window, with the dense chance of losing my small($2200+) investment, with hopes of capture great photo's. xD

Sure, share great photos, just not so many, or photos that are so average. I don't mean to be mean but honestly much more of that and I'll either leave the thread or add you to my ignore list.
