For d800 owners: how has the workflow been since switching, and what model did you switch from?

I've been keeping more diligent in deleting files I know I won't use and I've been down-sampling the files I know I won't go to print with. I was more lackadaisical about this before.

I've had a handful a systems this past year my last one was a 5D2.

Still have my 5D II. Workflow is mostly unchanged, although the D800's live view is so poor (compared to the 5D II), that I've not used it as much.

I have huge amounts of hard drive space on my Drobo, so I don't even pay attention to the files. A multi-layered manual exposure blend makes for a really huge photoshop file though. ;)

Why is the base ISO for the D700 at 200?

I thought the 85 1.8G would be available by now...what's the word?

It is. The big well known online dealers have been out of them for a while but they are available at smaller dealers.

One thing I don't quite have figured out on a Nikon: Autobracketing. Is there a way to shoot a series of autobracket exposures by only clicking the shutter release button only once? It seems that you have to manually click for each exposure or hold down in Continuous High mode. I'm wondering if, for long-exposure multi-exposure HDR shots, I need a cable release. Suggestions?

use the self timer. you can do up to 9 shots.

for example. if i want to bracket 3 shots. i set the timer to 2 seconds, 3 shots. set your focus. press shutter. done.

for long exposure hdr, that doesnt require more than 30+ seconds, you can use the custom timer still. if its 30 seconds or more, you can buy a shutter release with a timer function or you can use a cheap shutter release with a hold button and time yourself.

I guess it's a trade off between low and high ISO capability. Either are an arbitrary number.

My guess: the specified ISO is what the chip is naturally capable of. The L and H ISO are boosted through secondary processes.

Got this in 2005. Still works - sorta. Just got me a D700 two days ago.

As part of the move over to Nikon I picked up a D50 for less than $200 shipped. It was the first and last econo-body from Nikon that had the AF drive. There are a lot of my favorite macro lenses being dumped dirt cheap in favor of the newer macros with integral HSMs.

I just realized what was bugging me about this. The D70 is what finally nudged me to start the transition to digital and I bought one new in late 2004. The D70s wasn't announced until April 2005 so you would have had to buy this in 2005. Not a big difference but it always bugs me when I read something that doesn't seem right and can't figure out why. This is one of the exceptions where it dawns on me!
