I just wanna share...I met my first POTN friend ever since I joined... he's a Filipino from Vegas. went on a trip down south of our island to see the Whale Sharks

here's one of the wild baby whale sharks...being fed

beautiful blue waters... on our way back. the Whale sharks are just 200 or so meters from the shore so they use row boats to get us there

Look how blue that water is. On top of that....sharks!!

I get green dirty water and two ducks who don't want their pic taken. :p

Looks like Best Buy is currently carrying the EN-EL15 battery and the 50/1.8G for those interested.

I've got a couple of buddies switching over to Nikon because of the D800. That's pretty crazy All their gear is up for sale. It seems I'll have more access to lenses.

It's hard to say what the net is one way or the other, in the last couple of weeks I've seen a lot of people dumping all their Nikon gear based on the massive delays of the D800. I got my hands on one yesterday, paid a little bit of a premium for it considering it has 1500 shots on it but otherwise I was going to have to do a 30 day rental at LensRentals. I have three events coming up in May.

What happened to your current/old cameras?

I sold all the Canon gear, last of it went over a month ago. I do have a D7000 but I built my lens lineup mostly around the FF format so I'm lacking on the wide end at least on a 1.5x crop. To make matters worse the last processing shop in town closed which means I now have to send all of my film to Dwayne's. I was going to have to rent a D700 for 30 days and that would have ran well over $400.

Gear's often delayed, just like overnight shipping can take three days. People need to plan for the worst case, not the best case.

yeah...that's why I don't like to upgrade the moment a camera is released. I wanna a year or two after the release when all the problems and glitches of the D800 is fixed

I don't understand your point. I did have a plan, it was LensRentals. When I could get a D800 for what I would pay locally I jumped on it.

I've used A&I (external link) for development and found them to be very good (B&W only). They're more expensive than Dwayne's but the quality is much better.

They're more than double Dwayne's prices. I haven't tried Dwayne's for B&W yet but I have had them do slides and they did fine on those. I'll try them for a roll of B&W and if they're not acceptable I'll try A&I.

Yes A&I are expensive but the quality is good. Dwayne's use Trepan RT as their B&W soup as I'm sure you know. That developer works well with T-Max and Tri-X but I recently sent some Foma 100 there and that came back with seriously limited dynamic range. Usable as long as you pretend to like gritty looking...

Well, d800 shipped today. Should be here tomorrow or the next! Only have the 70-200mm right now and am still waiting on the 14-24mm.

Cool! I really really like the 70-200mm. On the Canon I have the 70-200mm f/4L IS, which is well-regarded and has outstanding image quality, but I've never really loved using it. Most likely it's because the IS sounds like softly grating metal. But, I can't get enough of the 70-200mm VR II. Snapy snappy snappy AF and plently sharp; even on the D800.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the 14-24mm. It's supposed to be sharp, but I get some inconsistent sharpness results from it. Supposedly it suffers from a focus shift issue that causes the inconsistency.

My Zeiss 2/25mm ZF is scheduled for delivery on Wed; looking forward to exploring that lens' capabilites. The lengthy discussion of the lens over at the FM Alternate Gear forum suggests that it isn't sharp at infinity, and therefore landscapes isn't its strongsuit (more of a near to medium-distant subject lens). If that proves true, then I'll probably hang on to my 14-24mm. However, Lensrentals tested it and ranked it as the sharpest lens they've ever tested.
