They are still sold new, yeah, as far as I know. Check camera shops around your area for 'em too. There was one at camera solutions inc here in portland for a long time but it seems to be gone now. I don't think the AIS contrast compares well to the contrast on the 1.8g, but it does have a diff dreamier look. At f/8 though I bet no one could tell the diff.

I don't even bother with the one shop here that sells used gear, their pricing is ridiculous.

The 50/1.2 I had did very well on the D700 and the contrast was very good, if I have the time to set up a shot I would take it over the 1.8G. I have the 1.8G and will pick up the 1.2 when I see one for a good price.

So I sold my Zeiss. I'm thinking in going to get the 28 1.8G, but I'm also considering the 16-35G. I'm on the fence on what to do.

I thought I'd bung some photos in to the thread while we wait to see if the new 70-200 has a gold ring or not. All I can say is that I'm loving the output from my gold ring 35mm and 24-70mm, a couple of examples from a pre Halloween party today :)

OK, I put some effort in to the last one and stuck up a light with some red gel on to get some atmosphere :)

The D600 is working very well for me in Death Valley. But my sensor is already very dirty. I don't change lenses often, and it's not windy here at all. Have no idea how it's gotten this dirty already. The stock sensor cleaning process doesn't help much. Is this just something I have to get used to with full frame?

I have yet to clean my D800 sensor. Is it possible it was dirty out of the box?

Have you locked up the mirror and had a direct look at the sensor? Can you tell if it is dust or oil? Some bodies seem to have to much oil on the shutter mechanism that leaks onto the sensor. This problem has been reported on both the D800 and D600.

I have both but somehow I am liking the 28mm f1.8G more (for now) due to its smaller size for a general walk-around lens. I guess it's just a matter of which one to get first. You might be able to look for a used 16-35mm f4 VRII since its been out on the market for a while now.

When I had my D800 I was constantly wet cleaning the sensor. My other Nikon's were never as bad. It was never that big of a deal because I did do my own cleaning.

I also do my own wet sensor cleaning and I always make sure that I point the camera down whenever changing the lens as recommended by the owner's manual.

Couldn't see anything with the naked eye on the sensor. Here's a 100% crop of a sky shot, to give you an idea.

I mean that's just ridiculous. I've had this camera for a week. I've owned 2 Rebels for 3 years a piece and never had to clean the sensor.

Guess I should get a cleaning kit.

Would canned air be safe to use? Might be able to find a computer store or a Wal-mart today on the way to the Eastern Sierras.

No, I wouldn't use that. Find a camera store and buy a rocket blower. Start with it, if it doesn't work move up to one of the swabs and wet cleaning

What do you use for wet cleaning Rick? For some reason, I'm super afraid of scratching the sensor/aa filter, whatever is in front of the sensor.

There's a dust removal feature in-camera. You take a picture of a white piece of paper 10cm away and it stores the info. Gonna try that for now. I'm nowhere near a camera shop. :(
