Here's another shot taken with the Nikon 18-35, no distortion correction. I'm now officially on the prowl for a 16-35 VR or 17-35.

QUOTED IMAGE

Nice shot. yay! ;-)a You will enjoy it! Man, gotta say in many ways I prefer my gf's 5d3 to my D800, though. But Nikon sure gives you some great options. ^_^

The 16-35mm is a happy lens. Just remember that at 16mm the extreme corners get soft. However it's not actually absolute softness, but field curvature. So if you are say, at the beach and taking a pic, it works to your advantage...the bottom extreme corners can be tack sharp. But if you are taking a pic of a wall or building or waterfall (anything where the detail in the far corners is at the same distance as your subject, or farther, it won't. Once to 18-19mm this is no longer an issue. Anyway, it's a great lens. VR is tops.

Oh and I believe: told you so on the 70-200 f4 (nano coat) =p *sticks out tongue*

I like the colors and contrast from this lens.

Reading stuff on the D800 and how one needs to improve his/her technique when shooting. What does this mean? What are the tips for doing so?

It's pretty good on color and contrast but 18mm is kind of my meat and potatoes focal length. I do a lot of building shots like that and the distortion is just too much at 18mm. I can't figure out the right combination of correction in LR and haven't found any other profiles that work.

BTW, that's the Buckhorn Inn in West Augusta VA, about 20 miles west of Staunton on US 250. It was built in 1811.

Camera shake that isn't apparent at 12MP becomes very apparent at 36MP. I think that was geared towards people upgrading from the D700. Basically watch your shutter speed/focal length.

Meet Kenji

That's a relief. I thought it was just me who noticed his behavior. ;)

I fooled around with live view yesterday for the first time, seen a lot of complaining about the implementation of it on the Nikon but I didn't find anything in I didn't like. Here's a shot with the 24-70 using live view, D800. I'm still liking this 24-70 a lot. I'm hoping to go back out today with my 105mm and play some more with live view.

Nicely done Rick. Great clarity.

Finally all the f/4 family is united! Now we need f/1.2 family to show up to stop the complains!

I don't think we'll get there. It appears that there are some people who complain just to feel justified that their equipment is still superior. Now that the Nikon 70-200mm f4 VRIII, N will soon be released, fanboys have one less item to say that Nikon doesn't have. This new lens "IS" a big threat I guess. I can't blame em since the MTF looks really good.

How many lenses did Canon released this year? That's what I thought...

I was using it sometimes, I like the ability to zoom in in live view.

Works great too when shooting macro stuff.

I love the 16-35mm f4 VRII. Here is an old shot taken with my ex-D700 with this lens at 16mm.

I found I have to make sure I pay attention a little more with the D800 than I did with the 5D2. I may have just been lazy with the 5D2 and it shows with D800. It's probably not a big deal for most people though.

The guy I bought the 28 1.8G from returned my money out of the blue. I'm not sure what to buy now. I may go a different route all together.

I found one more profile for the 18-35. How does this look compared to the image I posted earlier with no correction?

No lens correction. I just matched the gridlines on the viewfinder before taking the shot. Works well for me.

It doesn't look like it has much distortion at all. I'm going to need to find a brick wall and do some testing with the profile I found for the 18-35 but it does seem to do well on that building shot.

Do you think Nikon will release firmware updates to unleash more capabilities of their cameras like Canon has been doing?
