overexpose it a bit, dull the contrast, and slide the WB to a warmer degree.......

I know, right? I'm just sayin'...

I have CS3, but try sharpening, desaturating just a touch, and in Selective Color or Colro Balance, upping the yellow channel the slightest bit

I got kinda lucky with that one. Just shoot during the 'magic hour,' into the sun helps. Then mess with the blue curve. This is where the 'vintage' wash look comes from. The flare and the rest is all just nonsense that I end up overdoing and it ends up looking forced. :)

Flickr stats haha. The pic got 47 views today (high for me) so I was like OMGEEE E-FAME and I had to check it out.

Would any of you care to explain the draw to this print style? Just curious.

Interesting question. Is that a diplomatic way of saying you don't like the look and want to know why people do?

This is probably the most straightforward and honest explanation of the often desired "vintage" look and the pitfalls of achieving it. I see the appeal, but there must be at least one or two threads per week on this forum of folks looking to emulate this look.

I think there are a lot of nostalgic POTN members looking to recreate their Big Wheel, GI Joe and Evel Knievel Stunt and Crash car days. ;) Funny that these vintaged images don't include bushy afro hairdos and beards and giant mirrored sunglasses and plaid and tube tops and corduroys and pop top cans of Schlitz. It looks cool, at least when you put some vintage era sports cars in the shot.

You forgot tie-died t-shirts, long hair, fringe jackets and hole-filled, dirty blue jeans. ;)

Yes, I took a good beating in formal photography classes for showing work in this style! Of course that was a while ago ... snore ...

Well, all I can say is that you should have explained to those beating you that it's art and as such, subjective. Then ask them to explain why their views and opinions about art is right and yours are wrong. ;)

Yeah, I had to clone out 2 or 3 cars that were in driveways cause they were all modern. I think it's funny too seeing "vintage" style car photos that have 2011 Corollas in the background.

You can do all kinds of effects in Lightroom -- play with the presets and with split toning and such. But you have to take a starting point and go from there -- nobody can point you to the exact spot you'd like to go.

After:

(After finally calibrating my monitor, I edited the pic again. It was too yellow with the previous edit (external link))

Huge flare, presumably from the sun.
No visible sunlight in the pic.
