Jan 27, 2011 14:46 | #2 You can't save a RAW image, you can have a "sidecar" file that stores information as to what changes you made, but you cannot write a RAW file with your changes included, otherwise its not RAW anymore. Please visit my Flickr

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

If I do a save in PS5 I'll usually use quality 8-10 depending on the file size. I find it virtually impossible to see any difference in that range using baseline optimized. Please visit my Flickr

I've got plenty of room left on my hard drive, so I figure why not. Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Oops I got my scales mixed up. Forgot that PS5 used a 1-12 scale. I typically use 10, sometimes higher if its an image with little noise and/or detail Please visit my Flickr

OK, there is a question here -- you say you are getting an "out of RAM" message -- is that exactly the message you're getting? If it is your problem is less with the file type and more with either too little memory or some related problem. Tony

Ya thats what i normally do, and i just call the saved file something else. I think this last week i used Save As and it actually made changes to the RAW file to. i dont know why, i think i may have done something. If it is your problem is less with the file type and more with either too little memory or some related problem. But if your problem is disk space, you should be clear of that and make some forward plans for your image library, such as picking up an external drive for long-term storage and also (this can be important) installing a large internal "data drive". In other words your file format won't stop either problem in the long run since you are getting the error in the "here and now". Thank you, i do have space on the computer, but i think i was saving RAW images. after 10 or so images it said out of RAM. I tried other photos and it was okay. Im not sure what i did. lol, ill have to mess with it. Thanks. Jan 31, 2011 14:25 | #11 okay so im working on some photos right now and when i "save as" it creats a JPEG file which is cool, but it also makes the changes to the RAW file too. So when i open the RAW file the editing i made to it. Why, i dont want the RAW to change. THank you. Yes Sir, when i open Mini Bridge the RAW file does read Cr2 at the end of the photo number. Plz help ![]() When you first open the .cr2 file in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) to bring it into Photoshop, any changes made in ACR are saved, so that the next time you open that same .cr2 file by default it will have any changes previously made in ACR already "done." This has nothing to do with saving files in Photoshop, it's the default way ACR is set up to work. Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

tonylong ...winded More info | Jan 31, 2011 16:14 | #15 Yeah, we need to distinguish between editing in Camera Raw and editing in the Photoshop editor. Camera Raw won't change your Raw file, but it will save an xmp "sidecar" file with all your Camera Raw edits. So that may be what you are seeing. The thing is you can change all that back simply by hitting the Reset button in Camera Raw. Tony
