I don't use my camera as much as I should, or as much as I want to. I know it's a little late, but I think my "new years" resolution should be to take at least 10,000 pictures this year. (Yell at me if that's too easy).
With that said, here's a shot I took of my German Shepherd today, sitting next to about about three feet of snow. How can I make this better?

Very good DOF, just not enough attention from the dog.lol.if he had been looking, totally different look.

crop is a little tight, usually don't cut off limbs, I know this applies to humans, but I guess dogs as well?
but what do you want to be better?
I think you did right with the DOF, the background is a tad busy and best blurred(like you did) to bring out some of that ambient sunset...
here in boston proper...I just get to see a wonderful snow covered brick wall...
and Im yelling at you :) topped off 35,000 this year...

I shoot Canon, I have some bodies, some lenses,and some lights. Photography is about the image not the L's that get you there. Though, feel free to send me your L's ;)
