Hi all,

We see and hear the promise of spring here more and more each day. Our shots are not yet full of budding trees, but we see the birds pairing up and all the signs of mating season about to start anew... And we hear their springsongs more and more each morning despite the lingering cold air.

Another beautiful series Kenn. That Robin was quite the poser, very cool shot. I never can get one to sit still long enough to snap some decent shots.

Kenn,

Those are the best image IQ I think I have seen to date on any camera...
They are really great looking shots, the photographer AND the camera.

I am sure by now you have been asked, but can I impose upon you (one more time) to let us (me) know what camera you used on these.
I see you have the Canon S3-IS with the Sony-add-on lens, if so, could you please elaborate on this some, like distance, EXIF, etc.?

(I got my wife a SX1 IS last year, and really, I wasn't impressed with the shadow detail in it, so your camera is similar, but I think a lot has to do with your skills, or my lack of. heheh)

Really, those are impressive shots, I am fairly certain that you must have trained birds, they look like they are posing for YOU! heheheh

Thanks for letting us see these, I really did enjoy these.

You have quite the aviary there! If I ever get to St. louis, I'm going to invite myself over to look at your backyard set-up. LOL You're definitely doing something right w/ the feeding, etc. and a lot of things right w/ the photography! Love your posts. Keep sharing.

Thanks everybody, we're really getting excited to see all our birds preparing for Springtime, and we're glad you enjoyed these.

Hi Randy,

All the shots in this series were taken with our new SX30, except for the Sapsucker (#4, which was from the S5-IS). These cameras are both small-sensor superzooms and similar in many ways, to each other and to the SX1. The primary difference in the SX1 being its use of a CMOS sensor, while the ones we use are CCD types.
I've recently posted a series at dpreview which provides a more extensive set of comparison images from the SX30 and S5 which might be of interest to you (or others here).
http://forums.dpreview.com …rum=1010&message=37522826 (external link)

We also have a multi-part series there on "Birding with the SX30" in which lots of sample images are offered with both exif data and commentary on our settings, shooting techniques, and post-processing. You can find a list of links to this series here:
http://forums.dpreview.com …5232460189/forums/Threads (external link)

Hope this is helpful.

Happy birding all,

Kenn
