I'd just had a stack of cash dropped into my lap and it's burning a big hole in my pocket. I'm gonna spend about 3k of it on my addiction... (sometimes I think a drug habit would be cheaper) :)

Can't decide if I want the 5DII or 70-200 2.8II. This is really strange because I'm a huge believer in lenses over bodies, but looking at pics in this forum the new L doesn't seem to have as big an impact on IQ as the full frame does (am I crazy?).

Also thinking of also getting he latest photoshop CS (is it really significantly better than my copy of elements7?) or perhaps a wide angle Tokina zoom (recommendations on which Tokina to get would be greatly appreciated).

Nice problem to have, but I just can't decide...

Just me, but I would hold out for the Canon rebates for the 70-200 2.8 II. I know they just closed them out but they will come back.

Thanks for the tip!

One quick question, how do you like your 17-40?

I would go for the L lens, 5D Mk II is pretty old for a camera body now. And camera bodies expire (for lack of a better word) pretty quickly. That lens would last you years and years and years.

Callum - Good point, very common sense, I hear the new MKIII will be out soon...

I would look for a good deal on the 5D ll, I know they come out with new ones regular, but the 5D ll is an amazing camera and it will be hard for me to think about upgrading any time soon.

You could hire me as your personal purchasing consultant! My rates are cheap.

As far as lenses, go... I think you could seriously streamline your lens collection. Sell a few and purchase some better IQ in the wider range. What do you shoot, anyway?

As far as Photoshop goes, get a CS... doesn't have to be the latest. Elements is just too limited, in my opinion, especially if you do any significant editing. If not, at least get Lightroom.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

Id go with a 5D II id i had the money. Youd have loads of fun shooting through all of your lenses on a full frame :). And you could sell 7D while its in demand and add the rest of the money from 5d and get a 70-200 2.8 IS mk I.

Never tried it, but honestly from the photos I saw that lens doesnt look like its worth that much money to me :D.

Yes 5DII wins over the lens in terms of picture niceness. Now. However as I understand you still are not in position to buy whatever and whenever you need.
So in the long term buying the lens is a much better investment. 5DII is fairly mature product and there are a lot of signs that Canon is going to release a new version very soon. That means sharp drop in the camera prices. That is not always true for lenses. For example price for used 70-200/2.8 IS actually went up now.
So use your 7D till it gets old. It can serve you well for several generations of FF cameras.
Of course if you really need better pictures now than go ahead with 5D.

People, stop bashing good products for the only reason you do not own them.
A very sizable portions of the best pictures ever made were shot with that lens, so you are in clear minority here.

I'm gonna give you a completely opposite advice. I know it's your personal preference, but, just because you have the money does not mean you have to spend it. You already have a good camera and few good lenses. Why not play with what you have right now, save your money, and spend it later in the future? Maybe when a replacement for 5D2 comes out. But, that's just my opinion. :)

Totally appreciate the very sound advice, I agree that saving/investing is always the #1 priority financially. I'm a pretty good saver... but the amount I have set aside for my "addiction" is actually a very small portion of the total bonus I received. The rest is being invested (safe & conservative).

I'm actually thinking about spending a touch more and getting a used 5D and a new 70-200II.

You're right, I really do need to streamline the collection. Good advice, I've been wonder if I should that, it's really a bit much. A couple are rarely used, I keep thinking "well I do really need it every once in a while", truth is a couple never get out of the bag and I have two others that I "plan on selling" but never get around to it.

PS - So is lightroom really that much better than elements? Is it easy to learn. Thanks for the tips!

I guess I should have included that in my original post. I shoot sports, wildlife, portraits and events. I only occasionally do landscapes and only a couple of times have I wished my 24-70 was wider...

Thanks!
