Hi.

Please help me judge if my quality can be improved by upgrading from 20D to 60D or 7D.
Thread is here:

Thank you,

I have a 20D used for backup and reach.
I would not replace it with newer and smaller pixel cameras.
The 20D pixel is 6.5 microns and in my book -
anything smaller that 5 microns is too small for today's Bayer CMOS Tech.
Main camera is FF 5D classic.

I've never used a 20D, but I have experience with a 10D, 30D, and a 40D and there is a two part answer to your question. Those cameras are a signficant upgrade over what you have. Improved controls, IQ, user interface, dust shaker all make them better cameras. The ability to crop from higher resolution files will help also. I only looked at a couple of your shots so I cant say that an upgrade will have any significant impact on your actual results. The camera is only limited by the person using it. I guess my point in all that is the camera will give you the base to make better photos, whether you capitalize on it is up to you.

Replied in your other thread, but the short version is your shutter speeds are too low in those sample pictures. Newer cameras have better high ISO performance, and higher ISO means higher shutter speeds. So IMO a 7D would be a fine choice.

I disagree about better image quality with the newer models... I owned a 10D for about 7 years before I upgraded to a 7D.

To name a few things, the 7D has many more pixels, better low light performance, and of course a far superior focusing system... But for regular photos taken at 'normal' ISO settings, I don't see any difference in image quality between my 10D and 7D.

I have experience of using a 20D and have just looked at your pictures. I'm sorry to have to tell you that, assuming you used a decent lens, you need to improve your technique before blaming your camera.
