Look - Any reason why I should buy this lens?

Hello folks,

Most of you have been around the block a few times, and have a lot more experience with equipment than I.

I want to buy a Canon EF 24-70 F/2.8 USM

I have found several dealers, but don't know if any of you would suggest or not suggest buying from one of them.

Here are two I am considering buying from. Any reasons why I should not?

I've heard about the benifits of buying from a Authorized dealer, but does that really mean that much?

Selling for 905.00

Selling for 1169.00

Selling for 1100.00 + 1 yr warrantee

It pays to stick with reputable well known places that people have had favorable dealings with, like B&H for instance (I assume you are from the US of A?).

I would be careful buying from those sites. A lot of sites offer camera gear cheap only to upsell you or cancel your order if you don't pay for the $100 lens cap.

Check their reseller ratings at http://www.resellerrat​ings.com/

DV stage turns up with some bad reviews as a fraud site.

I guess in my mind if you don't know if you need it, you probably don't. Save your money until you know what you need.

I own one and it's absolutely rubbish, it's on my 5D Mark II all the time... That's how much of a bad lens it is, and it's stubborn too as it won't come off!

I'm hoping to have the same issue on my 550D. It's probably going to get ordered it in a few hours.

Stick with reputable houses... B&H, Adorama, Beach Camera and Cameta Camera are the only 4 I shop from. Beach Camera and Cameta Camera (also good) offer listings on eBay. I recently bought my first bit of camera gear from Amazon, and it too was good.

You can safely shop with these guys and their prices are real and the best.

And YES, I ALWAYS buy with authorized dealers... otherwize your warranty card isn't worth the paper its printed on.

Also, with these vendors you can trust that if its listed as USA Model, it IS a USA model and not a Grey Market lens.

I'd wait for the 24-70 IS though, I heard they will release it 1st of Februari!

That is interesting because if the IS version is released, then it will drive down the price of the original non IS.

Yeah but it won't happen for the IS version isn't coming anytime soon... So I'd just get the 24-70 if you have to money for it!

The benefit of purchasing from an authorized dealer is that the Canon USA warranty is in effect. The warranty card which comes with Canon gear is of absolutely no value in getting service from a Canon USA Service center. A receipt from an "authorized" vendor is the document which will get you the service.

Adorama sells gray market Canon equipment which doesn't carry a Canon USA warranty, but to which it adds their own Adorama one-year warranty. However, sometimes the price for the USA version is less than the gray market model/ Figure that one out???
