Sigma 30mm (I've owned both). My copy was faster, sharper, had better blur quality and colors (these last two qualities are personal preference).

I have had Sigma then switch to Canon. My sigma performaed great EXCEPT AF is very inconsistant. I took sigma to a 2 week Japan trip. At that time, I was using it on 40D. In just less than perfect light condition, Af struggled, hunt, not know what do do, where 17-40L with 3 stop slower optics AF spot on. To me, regardless how greate the Sigma optics is, it is not a very useable lens.

so this is just my personal experience, may not apply to all Sigmas.

Since I use APS-H cameras rather than APS-C it will have to be the Canon.
Second reason would be better AF.

^All three of my Sigmas focused fine (30, 50, 85) - even in low light. It may take a split second longer than some of my L primes, but it's nothing that I really struggle with. There are inconsistent copies out there, but there are good ones too.

I can't vote in your poll as I've never had the 28mm Canon lens, but I do like the Sigma quite a bit. When I got it the lens was front focusing a bit, but after a quick trip to Sigma it focuses just fine.

There is one main thing I like about the Canon 28 over the Sigma 30: its closer MFD. Otherwise, I much prefer the Sigma. Sharp right from f1.4, great contrast and colors, and don't care one bit to pay more for the 35L (larger, heavier, not necessarily sharper, etc.). I've always felt that the Sigma 30 is the standard prime to have (and build around) for APS-C.

Have fun with whatever you end up with!
