I don't know why people on here get so bent out of shape by stuff like this.

I can't think of a single skilled profession where the pros don't do the exact same thing.

Photography just happens to be a profession where the tools of the trade are both readily available and affordable to most people, so it's not hard for people to get into the mix.

If you think this is bad, go over to the first graphic design forum you find on google and post a "I'm thinking about going pro" thread. Their plight is a lot worse and they wont hesitate to give you an ear (or, eye, I guess) full.

It sounds like someone's a little bitter, he needs to chill out. If he's a pro then he shouldn't be worried about an amateur, he should be working on how to better market himself to appeal to potential clients.

There are people like this everywhere in all kinds of different professions.

There's a few with these attitudes in a quite a lot of photography forums, from the free ones to the ones you have to pay to post. Heck, I've even seen one very well known pro wedding photographer basically been asked to leave a forum where you have to pay to be a member because of the constant attitude.

Taken from the blog post titled "We interrupt your daily dose of vitriol for an important message.

We made this blog because we love what we do and need the occasional reminder not to take ourselves too seriously.

That's great that they think they're funny, it's me who doesn't agree. No amount of "proof" lifted from their website is going to suddenly make me get the joke. I understand that they're trying to be humorous and do some satire/parody, but IMO it is poorly executed, doesn't make its point, and isn't funny.

It just comes off as sour grapes.

Unsubscribing--not sure how else to say it.

exactly that. also it doesn't matter how they express themselves (although admittedly a raging rant would've been even worse), it is the fact that they feel threatened by amateurs.

Im not a big fan of that post, it seems way too serious, but reading through all the other posts I am starting to gain an understanding of it. I like the other posts much more than this one though.

I dunno... I have a pretty good sense of humor, but I just don't think he's very funny. Just sounds like bitter, sour grapes to me, not humor.

Well the great thing about the internet is if you don't think something is funny/dont "get" their humor, you click off and go find somethinng else you think is funny.

I don't like/get British humor (I.e. Monty Python) but I'm not saying that "they're just not funny. They try to be, but they're not." I change the channel.

I think this (external link) post give you more of an insight to their posts. I was really turned off by this whole thing, probably because we hear enough of this crying all over our forums (but for real). It just looks like they are poking fun of a lot of things that are over done.

Im waiting for a post about fisheye lenses, TS. selective color, and over processing (I actually think they already did that last one).

Maybe they should've gone into a profession that requires 12 years of training, licensure, and board certification. I don't have amateurs trying to do my work for cheap.

I mean, I get it that it was supposed to be funny, but it misses the mark and just sounds pathetically angry. Yeah, I've shot some weddings for friends for free or very cheap, and at no point do I claim to be as good as a professional photographer. I'd rather do something I enjoy for people I care about than have them go without pictures because they couldn't afford a photographer.

I'm glad the pros on here aren't (all) like this because they should know that teaching me how to shoot better photos isn't going to kill their livelihood. Or at least they don't ridicule me to my face. :)

Ok, reading some more of the blog I retract what I said. It's actually pretty funny. :)
