Blogs can be inanely stupid. Or they can be a wealth of {_________}. Knowledge, info, laughs..etc...etc...
Its all in how you work it. And how you work it depends on what you want it to do for you. Is it to keep customers up to date? Is it to draw new customers? Is it for other photographers? What do you want it to do for you? You DONT want it to be an "all in one" or you will lose everybody.
Chase has a great blog. It is photography focused. But the concepts he writes about are universal, and can apply to any business.
Zizer has a popular blog. Talks a lot, but usually says nothing.
Kelby "has a blog" -- one that others write on more than he does, so is it really his blog?????
Kirk Voclain has a blog.... but it is nothing more than anamoto videos of clients.
There is no one way to do a blog 'right". You first need to determine what you want it to do. Then keep this in mind each time you write for it. Consistency is another key to keep people coming back. People need to know when the next post will be. It does not matter if it is daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly.... but keep it consistent. Once you have people actively seeking you out can you be hit or miss with the posts. But by then you will not be dependent on the blog anymore.
