Leaving this AM for a week long trip to visit these locations,

Bristlecone Ancient forest
Big Pine
Bishop (all locations)
Toms Place
Rock Creek Canyon
Crowley Lake
Convict Lake
Mammoth Lakes
Mono Lake (all location)
Virginia Lakes
Yosemite (Valley floor as well)

I hope to find some early fall color. If not, there are many more photo ops. I will have full moon at all locations for some great night shots. Also a chance of thunder storms always adds great effects.

We will be waiting for your trip report.

I won't get over that way for another month, so I may miss some of the color.

I hope you have a great time. My family was going to do pretty much the same trip mid-June but my wife ran into some major health problems and we couldn't go. We canceled 2 trips to New Jersey and our California trip. But, on the up-side, she's starting to get back to normal. We'll have to do our trip next summer.
It would be great if the colors are nice. Make sure to post some pics so I can see what I missed this summer. :):):):):)

I am looking forward to your report and images. These are all places I have been and will go to again, and I like to study what I like in others' images of places to get ideas for my next visit.

Maybe we should organize a NorCal/Nevada POTN group photo safari to the eastern sierra, Bob?

Beginning to get color in the Tahoe area(6200').
Peaks were dusted the other morning.

Should be cranking up by next week.

I expect to be heading through there in a few weeks, but the East Side is just a passing feature of the overall trip. I would hang out there with my camera for a few days if it were not for the fact that I will have two non-photographers with me.

October is a good month for photo visits there. The summer heat is gone, but the winter storms that close the passes don't get going good until November or December.

Anybody been to Lundy Canyon lately? By tradition, fall colors get pretty intense there.

Well all! For some reason I have not been getting my emails updating me on this thread.
Anyway here it goes,
Bristlecone Ancient forest,
Awesome as always! First day up, we had a heck of a storm that never broke. We then decided to drive to Death Valley National Park hoping the weather would break by the time we arrived.
We had no such luck with the weather breaking there as well.
Big Pine
Did not go after all.
Bishop (all locations)
Great as always. Fall colors were only starting to change. Since the temperatures were below freezing at night, I figured we would get more color by the end of our trip. We went back to the upper lakes (north Lake Etc). As I thought, the color had really changed in just one week. Another issue held me back from shooting many photographs, the wind was blowing like crazy.
Toms Place
Same as Bishop
Rock Creek Canyon
Same as Bishop
Convict Lake
Same as Bishop
Mammoth Lakes
Same as Bishop
Mono Lake (all location)
Too windy to shoot.
Virginia Lakes
Same as Bishop
Yosemite (Valley floor as well).
No fall color yet. Lack of clouds made my shots look like all the other non-cloudy days (cliché and boring). Wife did not want to hike 
Death Valley National Park
Extremely rainy and windy. Almost were stuck in two flash floods. Camera never left the bag.
I think the prime color in Bishop will be in just a few days time. Last year we had early color change, but the wind blew many leaves of the trees prematurely. Sorry I am not much of a writer.
