I'm in something of a shooting slump.

Sometimes life gets in the way, I suppose... I'm doing a 2-month stint away from home for work in a place that's honestly not the most photogenic in the world. On top of that, I'm working some crazy hours. On weekends that I'm not working I'm scrambling home to hang out with my wife and daughter. So shooting opportunities have been pretty scarce.

What do you guys shoot when there's nothing to shoot? I need some ideas before the creativity is stomped out of me forever. :)

I noticed you do lots of stuff involving people and if you ask me there's always something to shoot. If there's not set up a shoot, maybe try to do something similair to what a well known photographers done that you liked.

Good point, Callum--I suppose the same is true for the city I'm visiting too. Good captures can happen in lousy weather, too... perhaps I need to do a bit more exploring around town.

there is always something to shoot - just takes a little looking I think.

But when I have noooo idea what to shoot for my 365, it is often food or a book I'm reading. But then, I also enjoy shooting still life. (:

I spent some very long periods working away from home and I understand what you are saying. Photography was always the one thing that I could count on to help me pass the time when I was away from the family. Sometimes there just isn't anything or as you said the hours one puts in while working away from home gets in the way of being available when the light is decent. I used to just go for a walk near the hotels I would be staying at. If nothing else it got me outside and it you are even walking through a residential area there is something that could catch your interest. I have been desperate enough to do macro stuff of things in the hotel room. I've always been able to find something to shoot albeit not necessarily something that interested me overly.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Haha... Glad I'm not the only one... I've been meaning to play with a macro lens for a while now, so I think I'll give the good folks at LensRentals a little more of my business. :)
