Jan 29, 2011 23:45 | #2 Hmm, I'm going to have to disagree. There wasn't a strong enough geomagnetic disturbance on the 22nd to push the aurora that far south. If there was it would have been national news since the northern third of the country would have seen the northern lights which doesn't happen but a handful of times during a solar cycle, and usually near maximum activity.

saturn5 Member 117 posts Joined Dec 2010 Location: Caithness,Scotland. 59North More info | Have to agree,its definately light pillars.Had the same discussion on an astro forum recently too where these light pillars were thought to be aurora.There is also no green glow in the sky which you always get during aurora.
