I have tried this a few times and never got it right.

Would love to see your shots, commentary would be a plus....

What are you talking about? I don't think anyone understands what you're talking about. Maybe posting an example would be good.

Nice capture.

I look at this and think that some enterprising or immature soul is going to crop off your watermark and plaster "OWNED", turning your photo into an image macro.

Like this? Got these shots at a drag strip, in Miramichi, N.B. like 2 summers ago.

Kinda neat!

OK, zooming is when you zoom in or zoom out on a subject and create an effect of action. I have seen a few shots of cycling races shot with this technique.

https://photography-on-the.net …ghlight=zooming+technique

is a thread that discusses the effect on a stationery object.

Looks like this is not a very common technique :)

To me, that just looks like someone used a flash, a slow shutter speed, and zoomed out during the exposure.

OK, now I understand what you want to see. Yeah, that's an easy technique to do with a stationary object, quite another with one that is moving. But that's what makes it more interesting. Hmmm...

So what sport would you be thinking about trying this with? If I remember, I'll give it a go this Friday night at my son's basketball game and see if I can get something. If I do, I'll post it up in here.

Zooming in or out when a subject is approaching you creates some very cool effects.

While most of the shots I have seen using this technique are races (cycling, motor-sports or athletics), cant see why this cant be used for example in a basketball game.

The shots above are panning shots....

Oh, it can be used for BB, how well, I'll see. I use strobes when shooting basketball. It's just a matter of what sync speed is used and whether rear or front curtain is used. I'll mess with it once I'm there and shooting.

Oooohhh...gotcha.

Here's an OLD one, from a couple of years ago. Holy, can you ever see a progression in technique / ability when you go back through the old stuff.

Anyhow..here's one.

Isn't this called "zoom bursting", not just "zooming"?
