Which do you like better, landscape or birds?
The answer will direct you.

One is newer and one is full frame. Best go and handle them together and see which you like the feel off. The 7D will be cheaper. Depends what you want to do with your photography. For landscapes the 5D will give more detail, for birds the crop on the 7D will give you more reach.

Sold my 7D which I admired and enjoyed so much for an year or so and bought 5D MkII yesterday. One thing so shocked me is 9 AF points in 5D compared to 19 in 7D. Hmmm; What else to surprise on the downside?

I'd want the 7D for Birds, and the 5DII for Landscapes. Both are excellent cameras and capable of Birding and Landscaping... neither will limit you in the slightest. But they are different cameras that excel in different areas.

Here's a very simple comparison

5DII Perks:
Full Frame Sensor
Low Light/ISO Performance

7D Perks:
AF System
Continuous Shooting Speed

Which is more important to you?

None that I can find, but then again, I never use a pop up flash.
BTW, I find center point focus on the 5DII to be fast and accurate, the peripheral focus points are totally acceptable.

Also, something that might influence decision is the 7D has wireless flash control.

Either way OP will have a nice piece of kit whichever way.

what is so hard about the search function?

i guess people are getting board - canon/nikon needs to release something so the general POTN community will have something to toss around......

If you had researched on this site and the web, you would not be surprised of any of the differences between the two cameras, it is overdocumented everywhere.;)

I agree with windpig, there are no surprises, just differences.
I am not sure what type of photography you are interested in, the 5DII is just an awesome camera once you learn how to use it.

just a few of my thoughts...

Frames per second?

OP-If you are pretty much split between birds and landscapes then I would say that in general it is easier to shoot landscapes with a 7D than it is to shoot birds with a 5dII. There are a lot of variables to consider though.

There is a search function on this site and it behooves one to learn to use it. I shouldn't even be posting in this thread. I just couldn't help myself.
