The fire itself looks a little wonky (no real base), but the orange tinting/shading to the hands and face is a nice touch.

I agree with jsvphoto. The edits on the boy are great but the fire itself looks like it was drawn with colored pencils. Maybe you could shoot a roman candle, and superimpose the fireball? This is a really great shot as is, but it has potential to be epic.

You're right, I did draw it lol. It was more supposed to be "magical" than real, I think.

But good idea about the candle, i'll see if I can find one..

I think version two looks more "magic" than the 'flame' one. I might mess with the color tones and stuff of the whole picture to make it look even more..."magic/medieval" ish. (:
Keep at it!

I do prefer version two. I didn't mean to take anything away from it earlier, it really is a cool concept.

v2 is better. If you could make the center of the fireball appear just a little more dense, I think you'd have it. You're doing way better than I can!

Added a version 3, what exactly makes a photo look "medieval" ? I added vignette and color curves.. let me know what's missing

Looking good!
Uhmm...I think of like...muted colors, high contrast, deep blacks..maybe some rough texture. I'm so bad at explaining this. haha. Take what you have, and just bring down the colors. Like I would duplicated the later, make the bottom layer B&W and then just bring down the opacity on the second layer. So there is color, but its muted... if that makes sense...

Yup I got what you're saying, so just rich contrast and desaturation?

How's that, check the top for v4 ..

What do you think about a texture overlay though, like this? (This would be v5)

I'm liking v5!(I'm also a sucker for textures. hehe) Though the kid still looks to bright - to me anyway. Have some desaturation over the entire picture - not just the background.

Yup there's main desaturation on the entire picture, I just left a little bit on the face and hands though to keep it fire-looking. Otherwise the fire would be kinda gray :/
