I had the privilege of photographing this Chinese family this last weekend. They loved the shots and I thought I would share a few of them here. This was the first real pictures they had taken together as a family. They dread going to the photographer as much as we hate going to the dentist.
In China a lot of family portraits are done on campy backgrounds with static poses and no smiles. We went for something a little less traditional they were really unsure about smiling in the photograph.

I did shoot one a little more traditional but still did my best to make them smile.

Then I did the unthinkable for them I had them all lay on the floor and I shot over top of them. They must have thought I was nuts. But they agreed to humor the westerner.

We also did a few individual portraits of the kids

I shot them on Saturday and delivered them on Sunday and they loved them they could not get over how they liked the smiles. It was very funny they think that the photo should be without smiles.
The end result is they wanted a 24 x 36 to hand in their living room of the first shot I posted here. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to doing more Chinese families.
