So bokeh is really just how blurry it is behind your focus point? Why couldn't someone english come up with a nice term other than "the pretty blurriness behind the person" :-)

The English language is a mixture of words from German, French, Italian, Latin, Greek, Celtic, Old English, Middle English etc etc..

To rewrite the English dictionary to only contain "English" words would be counter-productive and sheer madness.. So it's much easier to "borrow" words from other languages..

Photography for example means painting with light from the Greek..

There are very few pure Indo-European languages.. Two I believe that are pure are Armenian and Albanian..

BOH-keh

The anglicised way to pronounce "bokeh" is to rhyme it with "okay".

The native (Japanese) way would be to shorten they last syllable so it's like the K-E in "Ken", as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Can't help you with Vignette.. not my native language :)

Ok... Creamier has also been scrapped from my vocab. You're pretty hard on us newbies hey Skip!

:D:D
There was a recent thread called "Most overused phrases in photography?" in which quite a few folks expressed a dislike for that term applied to photography. So, I'm not alone. This place is all in fun anyhow, so don't take my comment too seriously. :p

In my opinion, vanilla yogurt is creamier than strawberry yogurt:p

i've always pronounced bokeh as bo (in BOred) keh (in KEg). As for vignette, it's vin-yet for me.
