60d or 7d? that is my burning question

Hi,
i have the option to get a 60D or a 7D and all the options seem to weigh up even-ish. i currently have a 40D, 50mm 1.8, 18-200mm Sigma, 150-500mm Sigma, Nissin 622 flash, some triggers and cable releases, etc. so all my current attachments will work on either (i think). i have a varied interest in the type of photography i like as i have only had the 40D for around 18mths i have been doing a little bit of light trails, night exposures and some family shots stuff too but am discovering new things to try all the time. i like the idea of the 60D as it uses SD rather than CF so i can just dump all my images straight to my iPad on the fly and free up the cards (an also see them on a 9.7" screen to see if they are any good) then the 7D has less noise at higher ISO, better processor, and generally seems to be a better choice. but is this going to be replaced with a new version soon? does the 60D have anything that is better than the 7D as i am not fussed about the fold out screen. never done any videography before but will probably want to try this at some point so is one better than the other for that?
sorry its so many questions but i thought it would be an easy choice until i started to investigate!
what one do you think i should go for and why?

Your old 40D is a great camera - what where you missing when you used it ?!

As for the fact that the 7D will be replaced - it does not make the current 7D any less of a camera and mind you the 70D will also come along

i am getting the camera as a present and will not be giving up my 40D. bought it second hand and gave me my first insight into proper photography so will also be in my kit as my trusty back up.

The 7d will not be replace for another year or two. I wouldnt be worried about a replacement just yet. But I would just step up to the 7D and not regret it later. 60D users will always justify their purchase by compare the two cameras but 7D users will forget about comparisons after they purchase the camera.

Unless you have a need for the advanced AF and higher fps of the 7d, the 60d will probably be the better choice. Either will be an improvement over the 40d.

Noise wise, 60D and 7D are the same because they use the same sensor.

As for which one to get, can you swallow the differences in $$? If so, get 7D. It is overall a better camera, ie, faster, better AF, more features, better ergonomic. If you need AF for fast moving subject, it is clearly a better choice.

Have said that, IQ wise, they will be the same.

i am planning to try and get to around 4 or 5 motor racing events throughout the year (hence the 150-500 sigma purchase recently) so the fps may come in handy

I'm a 7d owner, and yesterday I had in my hands 60D. It's big diference, 60D feels ceap, and not have the butons, control, AF and built of 7D. The 40d or 50D its better built and feels more good in the hand.
If you have the money, 7D is the way to go, the best crop camera. It it also a big upgrade from 40D (I had a 40d before). You will not be disappointed.

the 7d is what I would get, but then again I don't have to use it, you do!

I agree the 7D is probably the best crop frame camera by Canon. It does a lot of things well. However it is more than many people need or will use and has the dis-advantage of more weight, complexity, and heftier price tag. If you need the features of the 7D, it's a no brainer, get the 7D. However the 60D is a great camera for many and very well suited for its target audience, the advanced amateur, pro-back-up or for some one looking for that next level over the Rebels without breaking the bank.

I for one appreciate the smaller lighter weight and the poly carbonate body is more than tough, you can bang nails in with it, you'll break the inside long before you break the outside. Holding both will help you decide, stick to your budget, you'll have a great camera either way.

Get a refurbished 7D from Canon USA. Use an old Canon body...including old flim bodies...to get hundreds off the refurbished price.

While 50D and 60D are nice, neither touch 7D for fast fps, AF, and high ISO noice handling.

Get the 7D if you need fps and better AF.

High ISO and IQ will be similar between the two cameras.

If you need the swivel screen (great for video, macro work, etc) - get the 60D. If you need speed, a better AF system - get the 7D. I prefer the 7D myself - it is pretty much the best 1.6x crop camera in Canon's line-up.

I own a 60D and was looking at getting the 7D, went to rudy winston's class at adorama. And after talking about my shooting needs. Went with the 60D instead. I did not need all those features of the 7D. If you are a sport shoot, the 7D is the better option. But is you are a cause shooting or hobbyist and do not need the wicked fast AF or high burst rate the 60D will do an excellent job, and say you about 600 dollars.

IQ between the two camera are practically identical. Other things you get 3 custom setting presets, and micro adjustment.

Soon after buying the 60D I sold it and went with the 7D (which is what I really wanted originally). Happy with the decision. I would disagree however with the 60D feeling cheap. IMO while the build may be different it feels pretty solid - good weight and fits great in the hand.
