60d or 7d? that is my burning question

The thing that really made me pick the 7D over the 60D is the size and the 100% viewfinder.

The body build on the 7D, not just weight, makes the camera seem really professional and it is. The other thing is the 100% viewfinder.

If I weren't looking for build or viewfinder, I would have gotten the 60D and spent the differences on lens.

perhaps
but if you've had your previous camera for only 18 months don't be alarmed if you feel the urge to upgrade when the 8D or 70D comes out

Not going to have the money to upgrade myself, this will be a gift from someone

I sold my 40D, which i really loved, for a 7D, which i am still climbing the learning curve on. Via CLP the 7D was a no brainer and honestly i didnt even really consider the 60D much. Its a great upgrade to the 40D but imo, a little less intuitive and a bit heavier. But all in all i am happy with the upgrade.

Going to keep my 40d as a back up should I ever get deeper into this photography whole that is take more and more of my interest and time

I've tried a 60D for two weeks. It works fine with the kit lens that came with it (EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS), but when used with larger lenses, like the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM or the sometimes longer (when zoomed to the long end) EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, then the 60D is too small to hold.

Then the AF capability, the viewfinder and the continuous drive speed in the 7D is clearly better. The viewfinder everybody uses, but the other two characteristics you may not need.
