Hi all,

I came across some very interesting reading regarding Nikon 135mm f/2D AF DC-Nikkor last week. Just wonder if anyone own/owned both lenses and LOVE to hear from you, please :)

Many thanks

What body are you using? What subjects are you after? Nikon DC (105 or 135) is a beauty. Solid, well made indeed. But, since you probably need AF (?) go for the 135/2. I had, at one time, 6 different 135/2's including the EF as well as the Nikon 105 DC and 135 DC. Sold them all. But, that's a long story for another thread perhaps.

Nikon F100 and my wife is going to HATE me if I get this lens for the 'death camera'!

My wife drop my one-and-only 'fancy' Nikkor Macro lens on a rock in 2003, and I started to shoot digital almost at the same time, which ultimately ENDED my shooting with film :o

But I'm thinking to get a lens, and shoot some B&W portrait film with my old friend Nikon again.

Get a Nikon 105/2.5. Classic portrait lens that cannot be beat for the price.

Thank you for mentioning the 105, which I came across 1st and still is my 1st choice.
When I got to Ken Rockwell website (sorry, many people don't like him), he thinks that 135 is the King.
So, I start to wonder about the Nikon's King to Canon (I'm not to call 135L the ONE, otherwise I'll be in hot water here ;))

I JUST sold my Nikkor 135 f/2 DC and replaced it with a 135L. Back when I first bought t I was trying to decide between the two, and the nikon won. I liked the idea of defocus control, though admittedly, I almost never used it as I really didn't like the look it gave. Some people liked it, I thought the effect made it look like crappy glass.

But all in all it was a billiant lens with a beautiful tank like build. I loved the old school built-in lens hood.

The reason I sold it was not because of a problem with the lens. I sold it because it was quite sensitive to a rather huge but hush-hush nikon autofocusing flaw. Under low artificial light, I got so many OOF shots out of it that I could no longer trust it. Under daylight it was absolutely wonderful and so accurate.

So I finally sold it and got the 135L, which is dead on under all lighting conditions.

Are you on a canon body? If you are planning to manual focus it anyhow, then that won't be a problem for you. But a used 135L is a lot cheaper than a 135 DC, and really, the image quality difference between the two is negligible. I'd just get a 135L if you are with canon, and the 135DC if you are on Nikon, provided you have a body with a focus motor.

Thanks Lloyd!!!
My 1st Canon is EOS 400D, never has a film Canon body.
Now I have few Canon zoom and primes, sound silly to get a Nikon lens.
I'm a man - so I'm not that logical sometime.

There's was a comparison on Fredmiranda that pitted the Nikkor 105/2.5 against the new Zeiss Makro Planar f/2 and the Nikkor came pretty close to the quality of the Zeiss. The bokeh and sharpness of the Nikkor is wonderful.

The 105m f/2.5 has been around for many years and has enjoyed a long evolution..

It's an amazing lens as is the 85mm f/2..

Nikon lenses adapted to Canon mounts lose most or all automation, which is a non-starter for many anyway. I've read of a few Canon shooters using the 14-24, but of course landscape guys have the time.

I'm a man - so I'm not that logical sometime.

… but I can change. If I have to. I guess. ;)

But, some of those Nikon lenses are worth the extra effort invloved. Might even make you a better photographer in the long run if you did without some automation.
