Cleaned out my folks garage over the weekend and came across some old photo gear and books. One of which was my dad's 20-35L 2.8

Probably discontinued. I've never seen it for sale anywhere online or in any local market.

Anyone here still shoot with it? How much do these things run now?

I would hang onto it out of sentimental reasons if nothing else...

Yes it is a discontinued lens and no IS, but it is a very good lens. Unless you want to drop $1550 or so on a 16-35mm 2.8L it is worth keeping. The sharpness, color and costrast it gives are very good, light weight compact, a nice all around wide to semi wide ( on acrop camera). Selling them is easy, they tend to go for around $500 on Ebay and maybe a little less here and they do not linger long if in good condition. That would account as to why you do not see them often. Fred Miranda is another site where they show up both on the sale and want lists occasionaly.

Recent eBay sales of this lens were at $455-509 (U.S. Dollars)...

Yeah, I've only just replaced mine with a 24L..

The 20-35mm is a great lens, nice & sharp, great colour rendition & tonality & good contrast. My only complaint was that it could be a little flare-prone in tough conditions, but that was fairly minor.

I'd definitely recommend this one - great lens for the price!

Cool! That's a darned good lens and was quite amazing when it was introduced (1989).... It's not a USM lens, if memory serves... But not sure it even needs to be. Ultrawides usually don't need to move focusing elements very far, so often can be plenty fast without USM. Ultimately, the 17-35/2.8L replaced it in 1996. Then Canon replaced that with two lenses: 17-40/4L (2003) and 16-35/2.8 (2001). Then they replaced the latter with the current 16-35/2.8L II (2007).

Like some others have said, I'd probably keep it for nostalgia's sake if nothing else.

In fact a few years ago my Dad gave me his old cameras...

Still have them and have no plans to sell them, no matter what they're worth! They need new shutters and I'll have that done sometime so I can occasionally run a roll of film through.
