This was my first pic using fill flash and a better beamer.

Not a bad shot.
Two concerns...
1. It still seems underexposed
2. The bird is too central - I think a portrait crop would better suit it

Not too bad. Bird does look a little under exposed, especially for using a fill flash. Maybe crop some off the left side, too much open space.
