Hi!

I've been reading through my G6 manual and I am a little puzzled about the ND filter setting. I am not quite understanding what it is for and when I would be using it.

Has anyone used it? And what for? What does the abbreviation stand for?

Thanks,

Hans

The neutral density filter setting reduces the amount of light which passes through lens. Since I'm not so good at explaining this kind of stuff, here's a link that may clear things up a bit for you.

And here's a link of a photo I took using the ND filter setting on the G6. As you can see, it is particularly handy for photographing waterfalls. The ND filter is also discussed some too...

Thanks,

You've made it clear to me. Without the ND filter you would have been unable to picture the streaming water from the falls. Perfect example!

I find it useful as well on my G3 in very bright - sunny situations where you want to use a wider aperature and the shutter speed can not be short enough to get a correct exposure.
