I quite like old buildings. This one is pretty good but I see quite a bit of noise on the shadows. Did you push the exposure up?  Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

I'm not very experienced with lighting either, but looks like a flash was used straight on, causing the hard shadows? I would try maybe positioning the flash off-camera with some kind of modifier (again, I'm not very experienced with lighting either haha).
