My first (and only) American Kestrel

Shot at San Elijo Lagoon north of San Diego. Back home I don't see them in my area. Unfortunately he only perched here for a few seconds and I only managed one decent shot, this one:

The missing EXIF is by design. Shot with the 1D4 and 100-400, ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/1600.

Nice shot but where's the power line?

To those unfamiliar kestrels seem to always be perched on a power line. It's quite a treat to see one on a natural perch.

Hey, they're not dumb, they will use anything to their advantage.

It was quite a treat to catch one on a natural perch. I just wish it would have taken him longer to spot his next snack!

I think even the entire frame looks very nice as a photo - now only if the background was a little less busy.

It is busy with houses. The area surrounding the lagoon were heavily built up and at one time the lagoon was in danger of being destroyed and built over.
