I do think this is deliberate from them but I think they forgot to take into account that the power users is also users that recommend mozy and help many of the non-power users setting up the service.

Heck yea. I know I used to recommend Mozy to everyone that was looking for a online backup service. In fact, I just gave them a praising review less then 2 weeks ago on another forum.

It's suffice to say, I won't be recommending them any longer.

2 4tb My Books are what I back up on. One stays in a safety deposit box the other hooked up to the computer. I fully back up the one at the bank once a month. ;)

I backup everything at two locations with portable hard drives.

Monthly cost: FREE.

I am a "power user" and also USED to be a big supporter of Mozy (set up and recommended the service to many friends.) And yes, I probably won't be recommending them anymore.

Hey, lemme know where you get your hard drives for free, man! And let me know where you get your gasoline and automobiles for free, too.. ;)

I would never trust someone else to look after my backups let alone pay them to do so. Businesses suddenly close their doors, servers crash or get hacked, someone forgets to run the server backup.

I do it myself with one internal backup hard drive and two rotating external hard drives and one external hard drive is always stored off site. It’s cheap, effective and reliable.

If something goes wrong I know exactly who to blame, me! But then I trust me.

Just locked in 4 years of "unlimited" with Crashplan for $139. Once upload is complete, I'll ask for a Mozy rebate for the rest of my account and never look back.

I did this last week. Still waiting to hear back from them. I would imagine they are a bit "busy" at the moment.

You can get a cancellation and prorated refund instantly if you use their online chat feature.

I heard a Mozy ad on the Dan Patrick show just yesterday... Dan was telling how great they are.

Well... there is the problem. The biggest idiot move I made with Mozy is canceling my account before I chatted or called their support. Because, you have to be an active member to use the chat or phone support features. Now, that I'm no longer a member I don't have access to this. So, I was left with sending them an email. (which is probably lost in space)

I'm pretty mad at myself for doing this. But, I really thought that during the cancellation process it would have prorated me. But, I was wrong.

Anyway, lesson learned and I'd advise to you guys to not make the same mistake I did.

I was looking around and found this interesting tit bit when looking through my Picasa account.

"20 GB ($5.00 USD per year)
80 GB ($20.00 USD per year)
200 GB ($50.00 USD per year)
400 GB ($100.00 USD per year)
1 TB ($256.00 USD per year)
2 TB ($512.00 USD per year)
4 TB ($1,024.00 USD per year)
8 TB ($2,048.00 USD per year)
16 TB ($4,096.00 USD per year)"

These are the prices per year for extending your Google account. Which includes your Picasa account. I haven't looked into if there are easy ways to sync to Picasa. But I do know my photo management software Digikam(I use Linux) has the option to export photos to Picasa. This is in batch. I am almost certain that Google will not go out of business anytime soon. And 400GB for a $100 per year isn't that bad.
