Well I'm starting to learn how to render some videos of my 60D, to .mp4 1080 for example a video that is 1 min 45 sec long it takes like 25 min :S

I'm using Vegas pro 9, my settings are
Audio: 192 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, 24 Bit, Stereo, AAC
Video: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080 Progressive, YUV, 2 Mbps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000

My PC is an Athlon II X2 @ 3.30 ghz, 8 gb (DDR3 1200mhz), my vidcard is GTS250 (1gb DDR3) , and my scratch disk is a 7200rpms.

What should I do to have better rendering times? Premiere it's faster?

Thanks.

A faster computer (specifically your processor) is what you would need.

If you have any other reasonably fast machines you could try network rendering that is where Vegas will breakup the clip and render it over multiple machines. You are allowed under Pro 9 licensing to do multiple installs for that purpose.

Howdy,

I'm using:
Video: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080
Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum10

Athlon II x4 @ 2.9GHz
6GB RAM
Std. built-in graphics
Std. ($400 Black Friday) HP p6625f package from Fry's

My render time for a 4:40min video takes about 31min. That's about 6.5 minutes per minute verses your 14 minutes per minute. The only editing effects for my video was overlap fade between clips.

So, as has been mentioned in an earlier post, it looks like the number of processors (total processor performance) is what's dropping my render time compared to yours.

Today I will do some more tests, yesterday I notice, that the time was variable acording to which codec I use. Also i was playing youtube videos, maybe that will kill performance.
If not, I will unlock the 2 other cores on my CPU.

Dave.. in which format are you saving ??

Thank you guys.

Here's the render setting I use... (help from my bro who set it up for me)... it took me 5.5 hours to render a 11 minute video...now I can render a 3 min video in about 30minutes which is good for me.

2mbps for 1080 is too low try at least 5mbps.

generally, I render at least 7mbps for 720p24 or 30fps for online viewing like exposureroom.

If it's for web, stick to 720p, no need for full HD. Keep to around 6-8mbps.

Visual effects will dramatically increase render times, so bear that in mind. But to be honest it's only going to be as fast as your CPU... which isn't hugely fast.
But to help things along, exit all other programs and don't do anything on your PC while its rendering.

In my experience, Premiere CS5 is a bit quicker than Vegas at rendering... but it's not worth changing just for that. It depends on what codecs you use. MP4 is usually pretty quick. Plus 2-level VBR will take longer than 1-VBR or CBR

Howdy,

I was saving in .mp4 format. My settings looked just like "rxjohn's" except that I'm at 16Mbs and the Profile is set to "Baseline" instead of "Main". I read somewhere on the internet that "Main" is for SD and "Baseline" is for HD. I wasn't able to confirm that statement though...

Run a quad core cpu and that will cut your times in half. I use vegas 9 also. Best result i found for viewing is render it as a .wmv. If it's for web just use a hdv 720p format at 24 or 30p. If you want to learn how to view the preview when editing in real time and not lag pm me.

I got curious and rendered a quick 1:17min movie and it took 1:44min. So that puts my machine at about 1:12min per minute rendered. This is Sony Vegas 9.

My machine:
- Core i7-950 @ 3.07 GHz
- 12 GB RAM (triple channel)
- RAID 5 (3 discs)

In Vegas, make sure you have enabled rendering in multiple threads. I use 4 threads to render which gives me a pretty quick render, but still allows me to surf the web and do other things on the PC.

Unlock the cores.

not a good move, all processors can be unlocked but the cores that are locked were found by the manufacturer to be unfit/defective. Unlocking could cause stability issues, also the unlocking processes is not easy (unless you are on a gigabyte motherboard and know the bios fairly well).

Having said that, take in mind I said could, its not definite. I've unlocked cores before and had issues.

Biggest thing to take into account is to realize that you are rendering 1080p video. its going to take a while.

I am working on a short film that I shot on my T2i, its 25 minutes, edited in final cut pro, then imported into adobe premiere, and then colored in after effects. it takes me 3 hours 30 minutes to export it into any format, HD or SD... and this is on a Core 2 quad extreme 3.25Ghz quad core machine with 16gb of ram.

it just takes time. When I am at work and have a large render, I run that sucker over night, try and get my work done so I can do one large render when I leave. Avid has a cool turn off the computer when its finished feature.

hope that helps.

Or you can get PowerDirector and render that 1hr 45 min in about 1hr 30min. Either that or get Premier CS5.

Look for programs that accelerate with GPU.

Thank you guys... I have a MSI mobo that can unlock the cores, butt the problem is that my mobo doesn't support 125w so it will get fried in a second :)

I did some more test now with Premiere, and it's a bit quicker, enabling CUDA support. Also linking between after effects and premiere works like a dream !!!
