I read some where that from the lens serial number one can tell the date of manufacture. Is it true? Sl no of my canon lens is 3134333.... how can I find its date of manufacture.

The lens box has date of importing (Dec 2010) and couple of numbers on it -
- (91)8014A003(92)AA(21)3134333;
- 4 960999 114385;
- 0 13803 02009 0

The date code will tell you the manufacture date, not the serial number. It's at the lens rear and is alpha numeric. For instance UY1003. The U is the factory, the Y represents 2010 (X is 2009, and Z is 2011), 10 represents the month (this case October), and 03 represents the production run that month. This is just an example but you get the idea.

I think new L lenses have done away with the date code and now just include a serial number.

Not sure but it might help to know what lens you are talking about.

Thanks. The lens has another No, this one printed & not engraved.
No is UY1118. Means Nov 2010. Good to know.

This is an excellent forum with a lot of very knowledgeable & helpful members.
