I want to edit or create some cool special effects for images using Adobe Photoshop CS5 or Light Room 3. What would be a good tutorial site for them? Thanks in advance.

Well, Lynda.com is widely praised -- it has a subscription monthly fee, but you can get in for a free trial. It has very thorough tutorials for both CS5 and Lightroom.

Kelbytraining.com is another place to look.

You can also pick up some cool things from LightroomKillerTips.com.

Lightroom does all its stuff through Presets. "Special Effects" won't be as graphical and dramatic as what you can do in Photoshop, but you can do a lot.

Photoshop will definitely require a learning curve to get the hang of layers and layer masks and how to work with them.

What do you mean "like AIO"? Not sure what the term is referring to.

If you mean "All in one book on Photoshop", well look up Martin Evening as perhaps the best book on Photoshop CS5 for Digital Photographers.

A nice easy-to-follow book is "Layers" by Matt Kloskowski. It's Photoshop-oriented and he throws a lot of stuff out there that gives you both the basics and a lot of practical applications. It's not a "learn everything about Photoshop" book -- those tend to be of monstrous size. And, it doesn't specialize in "special effects", but the topic of layers and layer masks is crucial to being able to do "fancy stuff" in Photoshop without totally messing up your images:)!

To go farther, you really want to single out some particular area -- look up tutorials for that online and try doing an Amazon.com search for that topic and see what you find.

That, or a massive learning curve, which most of us had to go through:)!

Yes, All-In-One guide.

I am looking for photoshop/light room tutorials for automobiles. I've seen from other forums, how people was able to capture a raw image and converted to a very nasty good looking picture. I was hoping to do the same thing

That will be nice to know 'how they did it'; but you shouldn't do the same as this is way to get better.

BTW, I just start to read 'Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers' by Scott Kelby. Well, still long way to go.

The beauty with RAW, you can do lots 'stupid' twist and see what happen. Maybe many people love to copy your way later.

Try it, you don't have to follow any rule with RAW.

Otherwise, Tony is always here for you :)

I dunno -- I've been using PS for almost 15 years and still learning. Like Tony said, the foundation that most things are built on comes from using layers and masks. Additionally, understanding and working with smart objects is probably the most creative part of the process. After a baseline image is created, selective processing can be applied (again with layers and masks) to refine the image. Probably just as important as anything else is knowing when to stop.

While there are some cookbooks around, most don't do much in helping the reader learn much in the process of doing things by rote. A good first step in learning is "Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop". It help you to start approaching the editing process for images from an organized perspective.

One thing I would do -- either in that forum or here in our car threads in Motorsports or Transportation, spend some time, get on a communicative basis with the regulars, and just ask for a "quick rundown" on their post processing. Get a few ideas to note, then google for "<idea> tutorial" and see where it leads. You'll probably find people who are heavy into Photoshop who will through out some unfamiliar terms to google. But you'll also likely find a number of people who like to do their work in Lightroom (we're a nutty bunch that way), and you'll find tips there to likely be more straightforward that you can play away with.

BTW, I think Lightroom is bit easer than photoshop for beginner.
