Will the 5d2 be able to keep up action pictures, or should I revert to the 7d? (only keeping one)

5D II works for sport...but the 7D is pure awesomeness when it comes to focusing/speed.

If your kids (daughter) are getting into sports and you'll continue to shoot kid sports, and if you can only have one of the two bodies, choose the 7D. It'll take great portraits and snaps as well. And it does sports VERY well.

It's possible to shoot with the 5DII just prefocus and anticipate the shot then take them.

I shot car photos panning with 5d mk ii, ain't no slouch at it.

but extra reach of lenses on crop might be a decisive point. but this also depends what "flag football' is...

Hmm, I'd hate to make that choice personally. I suppose if you have to choose one and you want the best performance for sports, the 7D would be the better choice. Fortunately your 70-200 f/2.8 is a great lens of choice as well!

My daughter is in soccer and that was a large part of the reason that I switched to the 7D. The 7 focuses like a dog on a bone. Keeper rate is is extremely high and the ones that are rejects ar never camera flaws but the guy pressing the buttons. The 7D is an excellent sports body.

Kind of like regular American Football (not soccer), only without the tackling. You wear a belt that has flags on each side of your waist that tear away. Grabbing someone's flag is equal to tackling.

From a photography point of view, it should be close to kids soccer.

Thank you for the explanation. Never heard about it before.

By the way, and to some extent on topic, I noticed your wishlist. I've acquired the first two, and I suggest you move them from the wish list to the gear list right away. They are nice. Especially the new 70-200. But the reach of the 100-400 on the 7D is really good too.

I do very little macro, so I settled with the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 macro USM.

keep the 7d. It is a better sports camera and arguably a better all around camera than the 5d2 IMO (except the lovely small DOF and low noise of the 5d2)

Your 5dII will be just fine, make sure you use AI Servo and burst mode.

Funny how people seem to think kids sports need NFL grade gear.

A)The non-sports bodies are actually pretty good for action tracking in all but the worst conditions
B) if you somehow miss a shot or two, there's another game next week and nobody gets fired.
