you should post up some of those daytime shots. The on camera flash at night is tough. Taking the flash off camera would help, or dragging the shutter to help bring in some ambient light, unless it was just pitch black... I think your daytime shots are better.

Well, they are snapshots. They really don't show any posing, tell a story, or show/evoke any emotion. I would like to see some photos that you put a little more thought into.

I'm not sure what kind of advice you're looking for. As has been already stated, these are snapshots. If they are the only ones you can share, I'm not sure what to offer other than to say you're not ready to do this professionally and you're looking for too much help from an on-line forum.

Do some reading, take some courses or attend seminars, develop some basic skills. Then, we can add additional level of insight with respect to specific topics like off-camera flash, posing, photojournalism, or other things.

But right now, based on only those two shots, it would appear you need to learn everything.

Usually it works best to show 8 pictures to give a feel for your style and tell the story of the day. With just two images, unless your sharing a drop dead gorgeous image you managed to capture, it's hard to critique.

The first one I'm not even really sure what I'm supposed to be looking at. My eye gets drawn to the floating light between them which is both not what I'm supposed to look at and really distracting. Other than that, nothing about this picture pops to me.

The second one- his hand looks ashy, and the floating hand at the top left of the picture is extremely distracting.

I also took a look at your website and it needs a little work. You can make a post to get help and suggestions for a good website on here and the advice is very valuable. I recommend you do that.

At this level I would suggest staying away from the pitch black. I would say learn to shoot and compose with the light, then as you get more advanced take your shots outside.

glasshouse was not being rude...don't know how you got that. Sometimes things don't translate well over the internet, but I don't think he was being rude at all. Why don't you post your 5 best images of the day and we can start this thread over on a better footing?

To be honest, the night shots aren't great. The daytime shots are good, so you definitely can shoot. I especially like the second to last shot because you captured some emotion. That was excellent. Just work on your low light and flash technique and you'll get a lot better! Thanks for sharing!
