International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race 2011

Local stage (Alpine Wyoming), photos from this morning. -28F (-33C) - you can see my self-portrait, after 2 hours of -28F, over in the 'Wildlife Talk' forum under the topic of 'cold-weather photography'.

I was dressed for the weather/temperature - I kept fairly warm (except for my face), even though I was lying down in the snow for a lot of the shots. Camera became very sluggish after 2 hours of this punishment. Had to change out batteries, in the grip, after approx. 100 shots; second set was rapidly draining at end of 2 hours.

These are what I consider to be the best 8 from this morning.

What a sport - I'd love to shoot this. Personally I'd prefer them away from the start/finish, so the backgrounds were just the snow, trees and mountains, but these are nice too.

Thanks for the comments.

Tracknut: I would have preferred that also - but, to get that shot, I would had to have rented a snow-mobile and gone up the trail at least a mile. Perhaps next year, I'll do that. Just too blasted cold, this year, to even think about that.

Those are some tough people and dogs. The stage, that day, was 27 miles up the Greys River, turn around, and come back to the starting point.
