A couple of shots of a Red Squirrel scrounging around the feeders....

I trudge through two feet of snow in my backyard to refill the bird feeders and I've got this little rascal staring at me looking for a free meal.

They sure are Shawn and quite large compared to the grays. Their tails are very long as well, something these shots don't illustrate well. There is a dark morph that is deep brown, almost black with the white mask that I've seen but never got close enough for decent shots.

The Red Squirrels are hands down the cutest out there. Almost like a cross between a Chipmunk and a Squirrel. Chas, your Scottish variety will be hard to beat, beautiful animal.

looks more like a groundhog...:D, Ive heard of storing up for winter, but i thought that meant storing the food, not eating all of it ;)

Perhaps he has a poor memory and cant remember where he keeps his nuts, so just to be safe .... he eats them. Definitely a squirrel though :-)
