When I bought my 5DII last week....

Didn't realize how much wider my 24-70 is on full frame, but after playing around with it on the 5DII it's really like getting another lens for free!

No, because I'm keeping the 7D :)

Truth is I rarely found the 24-70 to be lacking on the wide end on the crop body, but when I put it on the 5D I couldn't believe how wide it was, can't imagine needing anything wider, so it really is like having another lens.

Wait until you REALLY pop an UWA on there. You will Find an excuse to need it. I LOVE my 17-35.

I felt the same way coming from a 40D. My 24-70 lives on my 5DII.

Heh! Yeah, the 24-70 truly gets and gives a new life to the 5D! 'Course, the wide field of view on the 5D is the same as the 17-85 on the 7D, but the 24-70 is a solid, special "fit" for the 5D.

And then, you can always look forward to the 16-35:)!

Ha, this is why I haven't bought a proper WA for my 5DII. 24 is wide enough for me.

I agreer with you. 24mm is plenty wide. My 15-85mm is equivalent to 24mm and I hardly ever use my 11-6mm now.

I also seem to remember that about 30 tears ago 35mm and 28mm were wide angles, and 24mm was called Ultra-wide.

This is what Wikipedia is currently saying: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_wide_angle_lens (external link)

An ultra wide-angle lens is a lens whose focal length is shorter than the short side of film or sensor.[citation needed]

Thus the term denotes a different range of lenses, relative to the size of the sensor in the camera in question.

For APS-C any lens shorter than 15 mm is considered ultra wide angle.
For 35 mm film or full-frame sensor any lens shorter than 24 mm
For 6x45 any lens shorter than 41 mm
For 6x6 and 6x7 any lens shorter than 56 mm

I agree with everything! I loved the way my 24-70 was on the FF over Crop and it lives there now. I really love my 17-35, too. Width is king!

My 24-105 is on my 5D MK II most of the time. I have a 17-40 but it does not come out often.

Just wait until you figure out how much field curvature it has on the wide end.

***** Just wait until you figure out how much field curvature it has on the wide end *****

Very true! I try to avoid using less than about 40mm on a FF/35mm, and less than about 24mm on a crop. Just can't stand the look of people or buildings at wider angles.
