Your portfolio will not always get you the job, it's how well you can market yourself. Is Justin Bieber a great musician? No he is not, the marketing people really knows how to market his music to young people. That's why he sells millions of CD/digital downloads.

"Bing" worked fine as Crosby's name--it's lousy as a company name. But either way, "Jennifer Lopez" is marketable.

"Justin Bieber" is rather dumb as a name, but as you point out, it's still highly marketable.

You're still disproving your own point.

True, a portfolio requires marketing, but an artist's personal name is almost always more marketable than an invented company name unless there's something quite awful about the name.

"Liebovitz" and "Reznicki" work just fine.

Again, guess I have to spell it out for you. "insert name here"'s photography, is the most over used thing in the photography industries. All I'm saying is use something else.

So let's say the photographer's name is Alex Jamerson and he wants to come up with a name for his photography business. He can be a sheep and call his photography business like everyone else. Alex Jamerson's photography. Or he can be creative with his name and call it something like "Alex Jamerson's Photos" or "Jamerson's Photos" or "Jamerson's images" or "The eye's of Alex Jamerson" or "Alex's vision" or "Through Alex's eyes". "Jamerson's production" or Jamerson's studio...etc. Or he can choose not to use his name.

You get my point(well I hope so).
My point was be original about your business's name. I did not say "don't use your name". What I said was don't be boring and just use "insert name here"'s photography.

It just seem like every wannabe photographers and professional photographers uses "insert name here"'s photography. And most of these photographers think it's cool to run a bloated Flash photography website, that takes hours to load their site and thinks it cool to have annoying music auto playing in the background.

So your beef is with the word "photography", not the name...?

No my problem is that people over use it and every photographer under the sun uses it. Is it original? No!

They use it because it makes sense. Trying to be too cute or "creative" as you say with the business name can backfire.

Furthermore, your suggestions aren't really creative or original either.

But...not everyone has the same name. Very rarely are there two "Firstname Lastname Photography" businesses. It usually occurs with more common names.

My suggestion are just examples, because some mouth breathers are a little slow to understand my point is.

This mouth breather would like some serious suggestions then. Examples that don't back up your point aren't really good ones.

Okay, I get you’re a mouth breath, but you can’t get always with having low comprehension skills for the rest of your life. If you can comprehend my previous posts, I made plenty of points. There are plenty of adult learning centers or colleges that can help you out.

Would it be great seeing everyone in the world started using "insert name here"'s photography, not just in the photography industries but in every industries!

As cdifoto pointed out that it only makes sense to use it. It just makes so much sense that we have to use it everywhere else. My friend Dan is a mechanic, so it would make perfect sense to see “Dan’s Mechanic” because he’s a mechanic. My friend Dave is a writer; I think it will be neat seeing Dave’s writer.

I have plenty of friends that are in different industries. Now let's play a game, I’ll make a list of them and add suffix to their names and you guys can figure out which industries they are in.

Matt’s Chef
Paul’s Police officer
Britney’s Wal-Mart staff
Brad’s musician
Amy’s Painter
Jessica’s Model
Marc’s Film maker
Andrew’s Apple genius
Kim’s high school teacher
Eric’s graphic designer
Steve’s tattoo artist

Let’s add this to my name on what I do for a living, Cypther’s software engineer. You may start to think that this is ridiculous, if everyone in the world started to use it.

Why does it make so much sense for photographers to use "insert name here"'s photography? Well if everyone else is doing it, I want to do it too. I don’t have a mind of my own so I’ll copy what everyone else is doing.
Other photographer’s are using Flash and have annoying music playing in the background on their website, I want to do that too because that’s what everyone else is doing.

MHave you ever looked around? There are TONS of "Dave's Garage" and "Nancy's Diner" named businesses around.

What do most of them have in common? I'll tell you:

They're all individual or family owned businesses. Most are small but hell, even the HUGE fast food chains McDonald's and Wendy's are named after the original owner and the original owner's daughter, respectively. They officially slap the not-so-creative "Restaurant" on the end because, well, that's what the heck they are.

Most of your list is weird because you don't seem to have a grasp of grammar, but employees do have titles such as "Walmart Associate" and "Human Resources Manager." Why? Because IT MAKES SENSE.

A hypothesis must ether explain observable events or predict them.

Please name for me five world-class photographers who are known by a non-eponymous business name rather than their own names. If you can give me some examples of that working for world-class photographers, you might have a provable point.

As it is, you seem just have a beef about the word "photography."

Yes I have, and those mom and pop businesses just go about branding their names like everyone else.

I have never seen a McDonald’s with the word restaurant attached to it. Also I have never seen a Wendy’s with the word Restaurant attached to it as well.

We all know Carl zeiss makes lenses (well I hope the photographers here do know). Do you see anywhere that the company is called “Carl zeiss’ Lens”? They are just called Carl zeiss.

Have you ever heard of a company called “Michael Dell’s computer”? You probably know them as Dell. What about “Henry Ford’s automobile”, I think they are called “Ford”.

What about “Maurice McDonald’s restaurant”? I believe they are called McDonald’s. I could go on and on.

So again, "insert name here"'s photography” is over used. So why don’t some photographer’s just use their names only without having photography slap on the end of it.

You can fix my list then, because I’m unaware of what their offical job title is called. I only know what they do for a living, so cdifoto the grammar police please fix it for me.

down the road when you want to retire, you may wnat to sell your business assuming it is successful. Its easier to sell it if it does not have your name attached to it. I went with the my name photography because I didnt want to spend the money to register a business name. But eventually I will try to get a good business name, hopefully the switch over wont cost me business or add confusion to customers. :)
