For my design, what do you think I should do?

16PT is about $20 more expensive in a batch of 5000.

I voted matte. Black + matte = goodness!

Where will you be ordering your cards from? I'm trying to decide between 16pt and 24pt...about to go with the 24.

I found this thread while searching on google for 14pt vs 16 pt to see others' opinions. Here's my input.

I personally prefer 16pt matte because of the thickness. I also like matte because gloss isn't easily recyclable. It's sad, but print materials usually end up in people's trash cans so some of my products have a "recycle this card" icon on it.

edit: i get my cards from http://materials.uzmarketing.com (external link)

I ordered the matte cards from Moo. None of the photographers in town have matte so I wanted to be different. I hated them. They looked like something I printed at home. Went with the glossy and they are 1000x better.

Agreed. I've had both from Moo.

If you're printing images on your business card, get the glossy finish.

It is a shame that, this being an old thread, the OP's business card image is no longer available. I think that the decision - matte or gloss - really depends on the image being used.............and because the image is not viewable any more, I cannot contribute a vote or an opinion, as I do not know what finish would be most flattering to the image/graphics used in the card.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
