Found this over on Model Mayhem. Read the whole thing.

You get no rights to the photos, can't do outside work, and must be a photography major...all for....>$150 per shoot?!

So who on here from New York is responding?

I know this stuff gets posted all the time, but I always enjoy a good source of humor, and craigslist seldom disappoints...

OMG thats funny. Even as an art major (Art Institute Intl here) I would not accept that deal. I know that times are tough but damn....
That all around is a bad deal for any photographer. They will probably find someone with a P&S to do the job for that price.

...so I'd say, take a look at what is required and how much time the shoot and pp take, and then ask yourself "what does my current part time student job pay hourly". It's possible that you might just make more doing this.

You may not but I am sure there are hungry people out there that would. Also as specific and detailed as that ad was no where in the ad did it require to have your own gear. I guess we can assume that you should but you would think that as detailed as that ad was it would list it.

Wow. An "ad agency" that isn't interested in photographers who are worried about " copyrights". An equity partnership that pays by the job (and poorly too). Only $150 per shoot yet you have to be good with "artificial lighting" and a photoshop guru. As much as I'd love to take that job my neighbor just made me a better offer. He said if I dig the ditch around his property I can have half of any gold I find.

i imagine they expect you to have it. You are taking an equity stake in the partnership, so what's your is theirs. ;)

Maybe I missed something, but they are offering to pay by the job, but then it looks as if they expect you to source the work, while only accepting $150 per gig (for commercial clients no less), while not taking any side work. Wow. Well, back to my ditch.

Sadly, this is becoming more and more typical each day...they're basically saying "if you have a love for it, you'll do it for free or pretty close to free"...it's a pathetic way of taking advantage of a passionate person. Happens a lot in writing too.

I guess I'm reading this differently. Nobody who makes a living from photography would look at this. Since they're doing club shoots, this is probably a really small time "agency" looking for some help on very small accounts. I've seen plenty of posts on POTN from young people who are looking for a way to shoot in clubs for fun. Here's a way to learn to shoot and get paid. Like the ad says, if you're an experienced photographer, then this is not for you.

Per the ad, they are looking for someone experienced with studio lighting, location lighting, and extensive retouching who is a photography/art major. They aren't looking for someone to learn to shoot. They're looking for someone named Ben Dover. :)

Another thing to consider is the location. $150 isn't really much in New York, and it says less that $150. That means you can make up to $150, but probably less.

I think I'm gonna email them and ask if they accidentally left a zero off...

This makes no sense. They are basically looking for individuals who have a real job and maybe making close to 6 figures. And able to afford to shoot and learn all aspects of the photography lighting (indoor and on locations). And to have the portfolio to show it.

This would work if you are a retired pro. Well, they want someone young. A recent college grad with rich parents who could afford him or her all the gear necessary to learn about photography lighting. And to have great connections and network with the night club scene in order to enable him or her the opportunity to create his or her portfolio. He or she isn't a starving artist (still living off his or her rich parents). He or she must be a New Yorker. I would like to meet this person too.....:)

From the ad descriptions, they seem to get offended (from their experiences) by the market going rate for a professional photographer who is specialized in night club shoots.

The email I sent:

Did you accidentally leave a "0" off of the figure in the ad for a photography partner?
