I like the feel of the photo but I think the composition could have been better, too many trees in the way.

I like it, the door being framed by the trees works.

my first post...
how about the ef-s 10-22mm and get a little closer. but first you'd have to do some shopping. or with an axe, chopping.

Not too bad :) - might be better if there were some clouds or blue sky in the rear (next visit with the axe). As it is, it might be a tad too contrasty making the trees not just surround (good) but overwhelm (not so good).

I like the photo, the processing, and the trees.

Without the trees you have a boring photo of a church. Whoopty-doo. Nice shot.

Like it!

As with all these things, it's subjective.
For me, knowing the area you live, this shot has exactly the right "feel" to it - especially in February!
I love the lack of colour, the simple sky peeking through the trees, and I also agree that the framing of the door by the trees is well done.

As to the processing, what did you use for the tone-mapping?

Regards for now,
Simon

I don't know. If this was run through the HDR process, you've still got some blown highlights as well as some blocked shadows throughout the image...needs a bit of re-work (unless this is the look that you're after). It may even benefit from a B/W conversion, considering the subject matter.

I think it's a good start. Looks like after tonemapping you applied a bleach effect? Or at least it appears so. Not sure I like that.

Thanks everyone for the comments,

All that has been done to the image is a little tonemapping with OLONEO.
And maybe a little tweak with the contrast/exposure.

Will deffinatly be revisiting, it's litterally 5 mins down the road. Chainsaw next time I think.

NO!!!

The trees are what make this shot

Like I said, if there were no trees, you'd have the same shot as everyone else.

They give the location character, age, color, contrast and a sense of nature. I would love to shoot this with a fisheye or UWA lens - you could get some really cool effects that way I think. Especially at night with a tripod and some spooky things going on.

I agree with the above statement...the trees make the shot. However, the processing of this image was overdone IMO. My eyes bounce around the image not focusing on one particular area. Perhaps a different perspective, different lighting (time of day) or less tone mapping would help make the image pop. It appears under-saturated and over contrasted for my liking. If only the sky in the background was consumed with something. Otherwise I like the photo overall. Nice work!
