OK, so I have had my lights for almost 3 years and I wanted to get them out and practice. This is my first time using them. These are my kiddos .. being silly of course :)! CC please and any resources that might help me understand lighting .. please share. Yes, my kids are very pale. I just need to learn to control the flash so that it doesn't completely wash the subject out when they are as pale as mine :)!

Love it...what a fun moment.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

They're cute kiddos! :D It's a nice composition.

On lighting, please let us know what you've got and what you did. Otherwise you'll get random (and probably less than helpful) suggestions.

For resources, I've included three links. The first is for a Canon book on their flashes and how to use them. The second is to the Strobist blog, a veritable primer on lighting. Those should get you started. In the third is a link to a three book set from Scott Kelby. While not exclusively on lighting, he gives recipes on how to take certain types of photos without actually going through all of the theory. I have the books and followed a recommendation he made on a light meter, a recommendation that was spot-on for what I was doing. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the recommendations. I just have 2 strobes lights and then the overhead lights. I want to get a softbox soon which I think will help out with the lighting control.
