I took product photos for a friend of mine for her business (www.luckybambooshop.com (external link)). She helped me hold and adjust lighting etc. So I did not do the shoot all on my own. I did have to do some editing on each one to get the background white enough for the website. In the end I had about 13 arrangements that I shot and edited and 4 empty vases.

She called me today and asked how much she owed me. I have no idea what to charge. Should I just do a flat price or per hour for what time I spent on it?

Any advice on this would be great. I usually shoot people not products.

Personally I would either go on a price per product ($10-$15) or just tell her that you did it as a friend and don't expect any payment.

Alternately maybe just recover your costs or tell her she owes you a nice meal somewhere.

Really you should have sorted this out beforehand.

I completely agree. I actually didn't expect payment when we started out and that is why we didn't discuss it. But then she wanted me to do editing and cropping/resizing and put me on a deadline. She also will make some money for her business from what I did so I don't feel awful charging a little something.

$200 - $250 doesn't seem unreasonable for something you were not expecting to make anything out of in the first place - what would you be happy with?

Since you really should have agreed beforehand, I'd tell her to pay you what she's comfortable with.
